“Villa
Brook” is an enchanting holiday home
designed to make one unwind and enjoy the scenic beauty
and splendor of God’s own country - Kerala. Nestled
along the banks of the canal in the coastal town of Alleppey,
better known as the Venice of the East, Villa Brook is ideally
located. It provides a picturesque view of the meandering
water-ways and the aesthetically landscaped embankments
that criss-cross the ancient commercial town of Alleppey.
The beautiful and expansive Marina Beach of Alleppey is
just a stone’s throw from Villa Brook.
The
name “Villa Brook” holds a
very special aura and charm to the entire household of the
host family. The holiday home Villa Brook, housed in the
new architectural marvel “Brooklands Avenue”,
is the Annexe of “Brooklands” the family dwelling
of Mr. Santhosh Paul Anthraper, the host. The Anthraper
family house at Alleppey was named “Brooklands”
in reminiscence of the ancient maternal ancestral family
home in Madras “The Brooklands”-
a sprawling 6 bedroom, two-storied bungalow, built in 1933
by the late Shri Rao Bahadur C.J. Paul, who was the first
Malayali District Collector of Madras and who is the maternal
great grandfather of Mr.Santhosh Paul Anthraper. The Bungalow
was along the banks of the river Cuom (and hence Brook).
Perhaps a stay at Villa Brook may also revive old memories
for all prospective tourists who will occupy the villa.!!
The
project is run and professionally managed by Mr. Santhosh
Paul Anthraper, a budding young chartered accountant, under
the able guidance and support of his father
Mr. M.G. Paul Anthraper who is a leading practicing chartered
accountant in Alleppey. Mrs. Shiny Paul Anthraper (Wife
of Mr. Paul Anthraper), who is an expert cook, looks after
the culinary and house-keeping at Villa Brook. Mr. George
Paul Anthraper, elder brother of Santhosh Paul Anthraper,
is a young chartered accountant with specialization in management
administration and presently employed in Bangalore, and
he extends his professional skills along with the culinary
skills of his wife Mrs. Suni George Anthraper and tiny tot
Maria George Anthraper. Ms. Alphonsa Paul Anthraper
and Ms. Anna Paul Anthraper (younger sisters of Santhosh
Paul Anthraper) welcomes the guests at Villa Brook with
smiles and cheers. The hosts belong to the royal Anthraper
Family.
The
history of Anthraper family goes back to the early 16th
century. The very name 'Anthraper' is derived from Andrew
Pereira, a Portuguese name, and also 'AntharaPeriyavar',
a term used to denote a person of high nobility. It begins
with the arrival in Cochin of Andrew Pereira of Portugal
and his wife Catherina and son Diego Pereira along with
Vasco de Gama, the explorer, in 1502. Andrew Pereira settled
down in Cochin, rising to the rank of Military Commander
of the King of Cochin and in time, his son inherited his
father's mantle and served the King well. Diego Pereira
was made a 'Madambi' (Local chieftain or Earl) in 1545,
and was the only Christian Madambi among 71 other Madambis
of Cherthala Area. The Anthrapers always married ladies
of Portuguese origin until 1786 when Kochandy Anthraper
accepted a bride Anna, from the local parish. And with this,
their integration with the land was complete. All the living
Anthrapers of many branches are the descendants of this
couple.
For
prospective tourists eager to enjoy the scenic beauty of
Kerala and experience the warm hospitality of native Keralites,

and aesthetically furnished residency comprising of 4 self
contained, independent, air conditioned family suites with

BROOKLANDS – THE ORIGIN.
The
original “Brooklands” residence
at Alleppey is over a century old building. It was bought
and renovated by Late A.A. George Anthraper (the grand father
of Mr.Santhosh Paul Anthraper) in 1961. It is truly a heritage
building worth visiting. The hosts reside in this residence.
POTHANANJILICKAL
– THE ANCESTRAL HOUSE.
The
ancestral house of the hosts – “Pothananjilickal”
is at Thanky, Cherthala, which is about 35kms from the
Villa. The house is surrounded by plush greeneries and
natural waterways. The name “Pothananjilickal”
has been derived from an Anjili tree. There is a mammoth
anjili tree (Artocarpus Hirsutus) with a deep hollow in
its wood towering above the house and myth has it that
the anjili is at the most appropriate place and that when
one tree withers away during the course of time, another
takes its place and believe it or not, that tree also
sports a hollow. A visit to this ancestral house is included
in the village tour package.
Pothananjilickal
is also a tourist residence receiving Homestay guests
who would like to enjoy the scenic beauty and village
attractions. The house is ably managed and supervised
by Mr. Alex G. Anthraper (Uncle of Mr. Santhosh Paul Anthraper),
an active chartered accountant, and his wife Mrs. Susy
Alex Anthraper (Aunt of Mr. Santhosh Paul Anthraper),
who is a specialist in culinary. The details of the home
is available at
www.pothananjilickal.com
ANTHRAPER
FAMILY CHAPEL.
The
Anthraper Family Chapel (Christ the King
Chapel) was established in 1949. The chapel is owned and
managed by the Anthraper Family. It is the one and only
religious Chapel in Kerala which is owned, possessed and
managed by a family. The Chapel is hardly 1km from our
ancestral house at Thanky. All our ancestors are buried
in the family tombs in the cemetery near the Chapel. The
Chapel is situated in a vast area of greeneries and surrounded
by natural beauties.
